Dorset nightstop

Dorset Nightstop supports young people aged 16-25 who are at risk of homelessness.

Trained and vetted hosts in the community provide a safe place to stay, washing facilities, a meal and a friendly listening ear. It is a night-by-night, same day emergency service. While the young person stays with a host, Dorset Nightstop will support them to find a longer-term solution.

Dorset Nightstop is part of a UK-wide network accredited by Depaul UK. The service is delivered by Action for Children in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, (18-25) and Dorset (16-25).

I am a young person and I need help:

Get in touch with Nightstop, and they will then ask some questions to determine if Nightstop is right for you.

Nightstop will match you with a volunteer host for the night and help you get to their home. You’ll have access to a 24/7 support line during your stay. You’ll leave the host’s home at an agreed time in the morning with breakfast and a packed lunch. Nightstop will work with you to find a longer-term solution and suggest other options if the service isn’t the right fit for you.

I want to volunteer as a host or driver:

Our volunteers support young people at risk of homelessness by providing a safe place to stay and practical, day-to-day support. With full training and ongoing support, volunteers play an important role in helping young people in crisis.

As a volunteer host, you offer a safe place to stay in a spare room in your home. Hosts provide a bed for the night, a meal, washing facilities and a welcoming, supportive environment.

As a volunteer driver, you transport young people to their Nightstop host accommodation, ensuring they arrive safely and offering reassurance during what can be a difficult time.

Nightstop volunteers are part of a wider network of people supporting emergency accommodation for young people across the UK. The service relies on volunteers to operate.

If you are interested in becoming a host, driver or supporting in another way, please get in touch.

You can volunteer as much or as little as suits you. All volunteers are recruited through a safe and structured process, including references, background checks and training. All young people are carefully assessed before being matched with a host.
