Depaul UK’s response to government’s homelessness strategy

11th December 2025

Homelessness has surged across country in recent years, and last night the Government published their long-awaited homelessness strategy to tackle the crisis. Our Director of Development and External Affairs, Dan Dumoulin responded to the strategy:

“It’s encouraging to see the Government’s new strategy focuses on preventing homelessness, including plans to explore early-intervention work in schools. Depaul UK already delivers this work in schools with great success, and we believe it is absolutely vital to ending youth homelessness.

“Youth homelessness is rising, and we know that many people who sleep rough first did so before the age of 25. Strong early-intervention programmes mean we can prevent today’s children from ever having to sleep rough in the future.

We also keenly welcome the introduction of a new supported accommodation programme to help 2,500 people get back on their feet. While greater investment is needed, it will still make a significant difference to people whose lives hang in the balance. With the right support, individuals can rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities, an opportunity we believe everyone deserves.

“Depaul UK welcomes this strategy, which is a solid step forward. We stand ready to work with the Government and partners to ensure it leads to lasting, sustainable change. We hope that the government follows it up with stronger commitments to end homelessness and rough sleeping for good.”
