Lucy's story

Lucy had a chaotic childhood, filled with verbal and physical conflict at home. She became homeless when she was 16 and found herself alone and pregnant. Lucy was arrested after a dog she was looking after injured someone, which led to her spending six months in prison. On Lucy’s release, the authorities took Molly, Lucy’s daughter, from her. Molly went to live with Lucy’s mum full-time.

Lucy was put in touch with us at Depaul UK, and we were able to help with food vouchers and getting DBS checks for her job applications. Lucy was able to secure a flat, and she got a job as a support worker, helping adults with disabilities. She loved her job. It helped her to feel more independent.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Lucy lost her job. Now Lucy is able to see Molly again and she hopes to find another support worker role so she can continue to help people – just as Depaul helped her.
