Education workshops for schools

We deliver bold, interactive workshops to help children understand homelessness, recognise the risks, make safer choices and know where to turn for help.

what we do

We believe prevention plays a critical role in ending homelessness. That’s why we work with schools and other educational settings to address the issues that put young people at risk, before they reach crisis point.

We work with children in key stages 3 to 5 to understand homelessness, recognise the risks, make safer choices and know where to turn for help. We also equip teachers and professionals with the tools and knowledge to identify students at risk of homelessness and know what to do to support them.

Our experienced facilitators align with the PSHE and RSE curriculum for each key stage and support Ofsted safeguarding requirements.

Find out more in our education brochure, or contact our team about bringing our workshops to your school or setting.

workshops for students

Our workshops are interactive, energetic and age-appropriate. In partnership with the BRIT school, we’ve created a series of powerful short films to explore the realities of youth homelessness and spark important conversations.

  • Key stage 3: is an interactive session where young people make decisions for a teenager facing homelessness – exploring family breakdown, exploitation, risks and where to get support. Watch the Choices trailer.
  • Key stage 4: Framed as a detective drama, this session explores why a young person might go missing and the dangers they may face. Covers family conflict, peer pressure, exploitation and safer choices. Watch the Missing trailer.
  • Key stage 5: Focusing on the transition to adulthood, this session looks at the realities of leaving home, changing responsibilities and relationships. Builds a deeper understanding of homelessness and the support available. Watch the Moving On trailer.

For schools wanting to explore issues in more depth, we offer extended two-hour sessions building on the themes raised in our films.

A thoroughly engaging session, which made it clear to young people that homelessness has a number of causes. I think this highlighted the necessity of reaching out for help when they need it.

workshops for at-risk students

We offer a series of four one-hour workshops for smaller groups of young people identified as being at high risk of homelessness. These focus on emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, managing conflict and making safer choices. Working closely with teaching staff, we ensure each workshop is tailored to the needs of the group and reaches those most likely to benefit from additional support.

I was able to speak openly in a friendly and non-judgemental atmosphere. It really helped to be able to speak about emotions and thoughts, which I don’t usually get the opportunity to do.

workshops for professionals

We offer a half-day training session to support education professionals to identify young people at risk of youth homelessness, understand housing rights and responsibilities, recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns, and support students to access help and prevent homelessness.

The information shared will enable me to recognise signs of homelessness in the future. I am also now aware of services available to young people who may be in need of help.

The Impact

We reached around 9,000 students and 300 professionals last year.

We help young people to:

  • understand the causes and risks of youth homelessness
  • build emotional literacy and resilience
  • foster healthy relationships and manage conflict
  • make informed and safe choices
  • know when and how to seek help.

We help professionals to:

  • improve knowledge and understanding of how young people experience homelessness and recognise the causes and indicators.
  • understand the impact of homelessness on young people and identify and respond to associated risks and safeguarding issues.
  • support young people to understand their rights in relation to housing and homelessness.
  • develop tools and strategies to better support young people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness.
  • recognise the need for and know where and how to access relevant support services to help prevent homelessness.
