Why prevention is at the heart of THE DEPAUL UK new strategy

Preventing homelessness means stopping it before it starts and making sure it does not happen again. Our new five-year strategy puts both at the heart of our work, alongside a stronger focus on people on the margins who are too often left behind.

By intervening early, we can help young people strengthen family relationships, stay connected to work or education and get support before a crisis becomes homelessness.

For people who have already experienced homelessness, prevention means building a lasting path out. We will help people develop the skills, confidence, financial security and support networks they need to move on from supported accommodation. We will also ensure they know where to turn if difficulties arise, helping them keep their next home and build a more stable future.

We will support and house people whose complex circumstances create barriers to mainstream services, including care-experienced young people, non-UK nationals and people leaving the criminal justice system. Working with specialist partners, we will provide support shaped around each person’s circumstances.

Through Depaul Housing Services, we will also expand access to safe, stable and affordable homes, giving people a secure foundation from which to move forward with their lives.

We’ll be kind, honest, respectful, and deliver what we promise, but we also expect our residents to meet us halfway – they’re part of the process too.

Our strategic objectives:

Prevention

We will prevent homelessness by ensuring everyone we support develops the skills and receives the support they need for a brighter, stable future.

People on the margins

We will support and house people whose complex circumstances can be a barrier to mainstream homelessness support or services, ensuring we reach those who are often left behind.

People first

We will attract, develop and retain a highly effective workforce, empowering staff to deliver high quality, person- centred services to improve the lives of the people we support.

Accessibility for all

We will deliver accessible, inclusive support that removes barriers for people experiencing homelessness while ensuring our staff have equitable access to the tools, support, and
opportunities they need to provide this support effectively.

Integrated funding

We will combine funding from a range of sources to deliver effective programmes that prevent and end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it.

Growing our influence

We will increase our political influence by investing in our brand, promoting our expertise, and leading with authority to shape policy and practice so that we can better support people affected by homelessness.

Depaul UK Strategy 2026-30

With safe, stable, and affordable homes in unprecedented demand, more people are being pushed towards homelessness. Depaul UK’s new five-year strategy sets out how we will prevent homelessness before it starts and stop it recurring for people who have already experienced it.

To deliver our mission to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it, we will provide personalised, high-quality support, influence policy, and expand access to homes, with a particular focus on people on the margins whose complex circumstances can exclude them from mainstream services.
