Do you live in Wigan, have a spare room and a desire to make a meaningful impact on a young person’s life? Supported Lodgings hosts can provide a safe, secure, and supportive environment for care leavers and young people at risk-homelessness in Wigan, aged 16-to-21 and who have nowhere safe to live.
This community-driven hosting model offers young people a stepping-stone towards independence, while keeping them fully supported. As a host, you’ll provide a private room and access to shared spaces like the kitchen and bathroom. You’ll create a welcoming and stable home environment and, together with our staff, you’ll help equip guests with the practical and emotional skills they need to thrive.
As a Supported Lodgings host, you’ll offer more than just a place to stay—you’ll provide guidance and encouragement as your guest builds their confidence and independence. This could involve:
You may host care leavers, asylum seekers, or young people affected by domestic abuse, family breakdowns, or discrimination.
“I think if you want to be able to support someone and get alongside them and play what’s quite a significant role in their life, then I’d absolutely encourage other people to do it.” Deborah, Supported Lodgings host
“Sometimes young people just need a stable base to help them make good decisions for their future.” Joanne, Supported Lodgings host
We offer training, ongoing support, and payment to cover your costs. Explore our FAQ’s to learn more about hosting and take the first step towards becoming a Supported Lodgings host.
